IRO Surfactant » Tween-60

Molecular Formula

Structure Formula

Tween-60 is an oil/water type emulsifier. It is soluble in 40℃ water, organic solvents, and insoluble in oil. HLB value: 14.9.

HLB stands for Hydrophilic Lipophilic Balance. It is the hydrophilic or lipophilic physical property of a substance. Most are used to indicate the properties of a surfactant. In fact, any substance has an HLB value (expressed by its surface energy). This is an important physical property of matter.

Generally, the HLB value is between 1 and 40. HLB has important reference value in practical application. Relatively low HL B values (low surface energy) tend to be lipophilic and relatively high tend to be hydrophilic. The HLB value is relatively high when the polarity is high, and vice versa. The HLB of the lipophilic surfactant is lower, and the HLB of the hydrophilic surfactant is higher. The hydrophilic-lipophilic breakpoint HLB is 10. An HLB of less than 10 is lipophilic and more than 10 is hydrophilic.

HLB is mainly used to design/use/experiment with different surfactants to suit different applications.

The HLB of Tween-60 is 14.9. So it is insoluble in oil.

Tween-60 is used as an emulsifier in food, medicine, plastic, and cosmetics. Tween-60 is also used as a softener for fiber processing.

Packing and Storage

In 200kg iron drum/plastic drum.

Handle with care. Tween-60 should be stored in a cool, dry, and draughty place. Shelf life is 2 years. Tween-60 can still be used if qualified after re-check.
